Multiphonics on the Kingma System

The additional venting on the Kingma System allows for multiphonic intervals to be moved around the flute chromatically. The example below demonstrates a chain of 12 multiphonics of the same interval. This opens up a much wider range of possibilities than on the closed hole alto flute, but fingerings have to be devised individually and not all combinations can be achieved due to the positioning of keywork and differences between instruments. Composers are advised to check with a player any multiphonics not listed in the Multiphonics fingering chart, and should always provide fingerings for any multiphonic used within a score.
